Category: Geeks r Us
Hi,
I hopped on FB this morning to find my mother, who was having surgery today. I did not have my phone, so I figured I could get a hold of her by sending a private message. When I clicked on the friends link on FB Mobile, it brought up these friend lists like family, close friends, and so on. When I clicked those links, Jaws would not read anything under that. So, the only way I could find my friends was by going to my profile, and clicking the info link.
Anyone having this problem?
Nathan
Face book mobile is working fine for me.
fine for me too
1. go to
m.facebook.com
2. press alt 2 if you are jaws user
3. jaws should said "friends" and press enter
4. press f for "fons mode"
6. enter your friend's name
7. press enter for "search"
8. a list of friends with the name should come out.
9. enter on the friend's link you want to send message to
10. Taps till you come to something call "message" and enter
11. type your message and press send.
Actually, pressing F will navigate you to the search field, but will not actually turn forms mode on. If you have a version of JAWS that supports autoforms mode, and you have it enabled, pressing up or down arrow once, and then arrowing back into the search field will activate auto forms mode. Otherwise, you will need to press enter when you reach the edit box before you start typing.
Honestly, this works fine.
I think this could be a "this problem exists between computer and chair" issue." Not knowing how to do something/asking for help is one thing, though I think you jumped the gun here somewhat, sir.
The mobile site is a good way to interact with FB; I use it daily. Works well in Firefox, but, is a little funky in webkit browsers, like Safari and Epiphany.
Yes, I do believe this is an issue of what some in the tech industry call pebkac, or problem exists between keyboard and chair. While facebook itself is a mess, the mobile site seems a little more managable. Also I've heard lots of horror stories about the facebook app, but I downloaded it and I haven't had a single problem with it yet! so i would encourage the original person to follow all the advice given here and try m.facebook.com.
You can also do a bunch of facebookish things via email, using thefriendmail.com It's very handy, if your client handles html-formatted mail. May also be a nice way around those proxies that limit your access to the web site.
I use Facebook Mobile more or less exclusively. The only thing I don't like is I can't delete apps from my page. Oh the options are there but anytime I try to do it I get an error message. And it's too cumbersome to do it from the main site as far as I'm concerned.
Well, I love how you people assume that I'm just "asking" for help. I haven't had this problem ever. Yes, my Facebook is not working, and if you don't believe me, I'll give you my log in details to prove it.
Nathan
The accessibility of the site has nothing to do with who logs in. But, if you want to be stupid enough to provide your password, I'm sure someone would be willing to log in from your account and prove this to you.
Sure, i'll sign in and "prove its working" though you might want to agree to the following...
By giving anyone else access to my account, I authorize them to do what ever they wish, for any reason they wish.
Because that is basicly what you're giving them.
I agree with the previous post here. Who's logged in has nothing to do with access.
I too, use the facebook mobile page most of the time. Either you're going to the wrong URL which is entirely possible, or you have a few configuration errors in your screenreader. As everyone else has pointed out and that I'm sure I don't need to repeat but will repeat anyway, the m.facebook.com page works perfectly for me.
It's okay. Don't worry about it.
I'll say this much. It seems to have become impossible, or at least much more difficult, to unfriend a person on the mobile site whhat with the new timeline thing. I was going to delete someone I never hear from even when I message them, and the only way I could find to do so was to go into Privacy settings and just block them.
go to that person profile, and on the very bottom of the screen, there's "unfriend" link. click or enter on that, done.
Not anymore. I looked.
Calling a site inaccessible is a tall order. I actually skirt around those words because at one point I had said a site seemed to me to be accessible and got me some flamage from a rather resentful chick saying just because I could use it doesn't mean it's accessible. On the other hand, calling things inaccessible is kind of the blind equivalent of the race card, in my opinion, unless the whole thing really doesn't work.
There are things like Brian says that appear to not work on Mobile site, but they are not really accessible or inaccessible, it's a 404 error here or a Access Forbidden there. Some intern didn't update a few references is probably it.
And Nathan, you were kidding about giving out your login details, I hope? My niece pulled that on her Myspace a few years ago and as a consequence I made her change her password.
That is not true hacking into someone's account, that is identity posturing, potentially identity theft, when someone logs in as someone else.
I change my FB password every few weeks.
Not a bad idea, really. also, if you have any apps authorized to use your account, I'd reauthorize all of them if you're ever suspicious that any one of them is up to no good. This goes for twitter as well.
just to clarify, you can indeed unfriend someone by hitting "unfriend" located on their profile. I've done it within the last couple days.
You all ever unfriend some people - not for personal reasons, but because they just fill your news feed with too much stuff?
O yeah. I've done it quite often.
It depends on if the person's page is updated to the new timeline, where it says About instead of Info and whatnot. Because I click About and there is definitely no Unfriend option. I've unfriended people for cluttering up my news feed, but also those I never hear from, even when I message them. But now it seems like you have to block them in order to delete them, even if all you want to do is delete them. And I'm careful about reading the page thoroughly. The newest thing I've discovered I don't like about the mobile site, aside from the option to remove apps not working properly, is tat unless I've been doing something wrong you can't tag people.
On FB Mobile, I just unfriended someone by visiting his profile, hitting the 'unfriend' link, then hitting the 'confirm' button when the page reloads. To answer Guardian Leo, usually, when I unfriend someone, it's because of unwanted commercial messages posted on her behalf.
Thing is, not everybody's page seems to show an unfriend link I've noticed.
I'm more likely to unfriend someone on facebook if they have nothing productive to post, or spend their whole life on social media e.g. fb twitter, etc etc. I also more likely to block someoone if that person is not my mutral friends, but friending me just to et their friends numbers up to the top, and friends every friends of mine.
Same goes with Twitter. If one only bother to retwitt every piece of information they found on twitter, or twitts continuestly e.g. 10 twitts in less than half an hour, i'll consider to unfollow them.
I don't add mutual friends unless I actually know them from somewhere. And I really hate the People you May Know box since it's not always friends of friends. About my only real complaint right now is that you apparently can't tag someone on the Mobile site.
Well, the mobile site is really fucking up for me, of late. Like, within the past week or so. And yes, I am asking for help here, so if anyone has any suggestions as to why it is doing this, please feel free to chime in! What it is doing, or not doing in this case is, I cannot message friends, or even comment on statuses anymore. I have no idea why, but it is really pissing me off! Whenever I try to comment on a status, or mesage someone, all I get is the message or comment button, but I get no edit box. Meaning, I cannot actually write my message or comment. It has never done this before, in all my time of using the mobile site, and I am at a total loss. *sigh*
Oh yeah, and I am using System Access, not Jaws. Person suggested I could switch to NVDa wich I also have, and see if that clears up the issue. I'll do that, but I do not hold out much hope. But, I shall at least try it.
anyone know how to remove a telephone number from profile, using the mobile version of facebook?
Yeah.If you click onthe number you want to remove, at least when I've tried it, it generates an error message.
